Visit historical sites related to the slave trade and Liberia’s independence (1847, the first independent black African nation). Observe chimpanzees in Tacugawa Sanctuary (SL) and Monkey Island (LIB), enjoy abundant bird life, and look for the elusive pygmy hippo at Tiwai Island Sanctuary. Learn about Liberia’s connection to the American automotive industry with a visit to the Firestone Rubber Plantation. Spend two nights at Sierra Leone’s Rogbonko Village Retreat, an opportunity to be immersed in traditional rural culture. Experience the bustling cities of Freetown and Monrovia with guided tours.
